History Channel Dumps Kennedy Miniseries

By    |   Monday, 10 January 2011 02:06 PM EST

Americans have been fascinated with the Kennedys for more than 50 years. But the History Channel has decided to forgo "The Kennedys," a highly publicized miniseries about the iconic political family, Politico reports.

"While the film is produced and acted with the highest quality, after viewing the final product in its totality, we have concluded this dramatic interpretation is not a fit for the History brand," the network said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.

The series cost millions and was planned in eight parts, starring Greg Kinnear as John F. Kennedy, Katie Holmes as Jackie Kennedy, and Barry Pepper as Robert F. Kennedy.

Filmmaker Robert Greenwald, historian David Talbot, and the late Ted Sorensen, an aide to JFK, complained the drama was inaccurate.

The Hollywood Reporter says pressure from the current Kennedys played a role in the cancellation.

The series is still scheduled to be broadcast overseas, including in Canada.
