Conservatives are significantly more likely than liberals to say they are “very happy” about their lives, and American Enterprise Institute President Arthur C. Brooks believes he knows why.
Writing in
The New York Times, Brooks disclosed that “scholars on both the left and right” agree that “it is conservatives who possess the happiness edge.”
One study cited by Brooks, by the Pew Research Center, found that conservative Republicans were 68 percent more likely than liberal Democrats to say they were “very happy” about their lives.
He adds that most conservatives explain the happiness edge by focusing on lifestyle differences, such as marriage and faith.
“Marriage and happiness go together,” said Brooks, author of “The Road to Freedom.”
And “religious participants are nearly twice as likely to say they are very happy about their lives as are secularists.”
