The Broadway show "Hamilton," in the news after a cast member told Vice President-elect Mike Pence that the show's cast members were afraid he would "not protect us" Americans, had a record-breaking week at the box office.

"Hamilton" sold $3.3 million in tickets for Thanksgiving week, making it only the second time a Broadway show has broken the $3 million mark, according to a report in CNN Money.

Pence attended the show on Nov. 18. As he was leaving, cast member Brandon Dixon turned to him and, in front of all audience members in attendance, told him, "We, sir — we are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights. We truly hope that this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and to work on behalf of all of us."

President-elect Donald Trump took offense to Dixon's actions and tweeted that the cast owed Pence an apology and that they "harassed him."

But Hamilton's success had nothing to do with Trump's comments, as tickets to last week's show were sold months ago, according to CNN.
