Arthur Jones — identified by the Chicago Sun-Times as "an outspoken Holocaust denier, activist anti-Semite and white supremacist" — is to become the Republican nominee for an Illinois congressional seat representing parts of Chicago.

In an interview with the newspaper, Jones defended his controversial background.

"Well first of all, I'm running for Congress not the chancellor of Germany. All right. To me the Holocaust is what I said it is: It's an international extortion racket," Jones told the Sun-Times.

In a video obtained by the Sun-Times which was recorded at a neo-Nazi retreat in Kentucky, Jones is heard ranting about how President Donald Trump "surrounded himself with hordes of Jews including a Jew in his own family, that punk named Jared Kushner."

"I'm sorry I voted for the son of a b***, pardon my English. I really am. I'm sorry I paid $180 out of my own pocket for three big banners that said 'President Trump, build the wall.'"

Jones is the sole Republican candidate for the third congressional district of Illinois, which includes part of Chicago and which the Sun-Times says "is so heavily Democratic that no other GOP candidates decided to run."

Timothy Schneider, chairman of the Illinois Republican Party, told the Sun-Times: "We strongly oppose [Jones'] racist views and his candidacy for any public office … The Illinois Republican party and our country have no place for Nazis."
