One county GOP chairman has had it with the Republican National Committee rules on who can convene primary elections first, and he’s not holding back. Lew Oliver, chairman of the Orange County, Fla., GOP, wrote a letter to fellow Republican committee members saying that "only a drunken twit would purposely design such a system,”
USA Today reported Monday.
Oliver said that, if Republicans want to prevent the re-election of President Barack Obama in 2012, the task of vetting a GOP nominee first should not go to "a collection of syrup farmers and ethanol freaks in New Hampshire and Iowa."
He praised Florida lawmakers for scheduling the state's GOP presidential primary on Jan. 31, in defiance of Republican National Committee rules stating that only Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, and South Carolina may have a nominating contest before March 1.
The RNC has threatened to strip Florida of half of its delegates to the national convention in Tampa if it violates party rules with a presidential primary.
