George W. Bush to Speak at Naturalization Ceremony

George W. Bush to Speak at Naturalization Ceremony

By    |   Tuesday, 02 July 2013 07:46 AM EDT

Former President George W. Bush will speak at a special event on immigration, Texas, and economic growth called "What Immigrants Contribute."

The July 10 event, presented by The George W. Bush Institute, will be held at the George W. Bush Presidential Center in Dallas.

A naturalization ceremony will also be held.

Bush and his family have long been at the forefront of immigration issues. In his second term, Bush proposed a dramatic overhaul of U.S. immigration policy, which included tougher border security and workplace enforcement, along with plans to legalize an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants. But the U.S. Senate dealt it a fatal blow in 2007.

Bush's brother, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, has also been instrumental in pushing for changes in the nation's immigration policy. He is the author, with Clint Bolick, of the new book "Immigration Wars: Forging an American Solution."

The George W. Bush Institute, founded by Bush and his wife Laura in 2009, is a public policy center with the mission of advancing freedom by expanding opportunities for individuals at home and across the globe.

Built on principles that guided the Bushes in public life, the Bush Institute uses leading research to develop and implement policies that offer practical solutions to pressing problems in the United States and abroad.
