President Donald Trump's approval rating went up two percentage points from last week to 40 percent, in the latest Gallup poll released Monday, but it was corrected to 39 percent by Wednesday.

Fifty-five percent of respondents disapprove of the president's performance.

Trump's 38 percent approval last week was tied for his lowest rating in the poll since last February. Trump's worst point ever in Gallup polling is 35 percent.

The survey included 1,500 adults nationwide and had a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

The poll comes at the end of a controversial week for Trump, who announced the withdrawal of all American troops from Syria and is reportedly planning a major reduction in the U.S. presence in Afghanistan, The Hill reported.

This prompted the resignation of Defense Secretary James Mattis, who disagreed with the decision.

The president's demand for $5 billion in funding for a southern border wall also led to a partial government shutdown, which began Saturday and shows no signs of reaching resolution.

In addition, the stock market has plunged and is on track to have its worst December since 1931 during the height of the Great Depression.
