Gallup: 54 Percent of Americans View Melania Trump Favorably

A majority of Americans now view first lady Melania Trump favorably, a 17-point jump for her since January, according to the latest Gallup News poll.

The results, according to Gallup's survey:

  • 54 percent view Melania favorably, up from 37 percent in January.
  • 33 percent view Melania unfavorably, down 4 points since January.
  • 13 percent have no opinion, down 13 points since January.
  • 84 percent of Republicans view Melania favorably.
  • 57 percent of men view Melania favorably.
  • 51 percent of women view her favorably.

Despite the bump, Melania still is viewed less favorably than her three predecessors at the same point of their husbands' first terms:

  • Michelle Obama: 61 percent.
  • Laura Bush: 77 percent.
  • Hillary Clinton: 58 percent.

However, Melania is outpacing her husband, President Donald Trump, also in line with her predecessors.

President Donald Trump's favorable rating is at 41 percent, up 1 point since January.

Results for this Gallup poll are based on telephone interviews conducted Dec. 4-11 with a random sample of 1,049 adults, aged 18 and older, living in all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia. The margin of sampling error is 4 percentage points at the 95 percent confidence level.
