Fox News star anchor Megyn Kelly set the tongues of media watchers wagging Wednesday night when she was seen hanging out at the CNN Grill with the rival news network's own anchors after finishing her coverage of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.
Kelly and fellow Fox News host Dana Perino visited the CNN Grill together, and Kelly posted photos, one of which was the pair posing with CNN's Don Lemon.
Politico media reporter Hadas Gold noticed Kelly and Perino's presence — and captured a shot of Kelly chatting up with CNN's Anderson Cooper.
Gold also noted that Kelly and Perino were talking to CNN President and CEO Jeff Zucker.
Mediaite's Josh Feldman notes that such interactions with media personalities at rival networks aren't anything out of the ordinary, but in the case of Kelly it is drawing speculation because she has in recent months hinted she might be willing to leave Fox News — and she has been one of the voices inside the network who have declined to come to the defense of founder Roger Ailes amid sexual harassment allegations.
The New York Times quotes two Fox employees saying that the atmosphere there is "icy" between two factions of employees — those who are upset Ailes was forced to resign and others who are unhappy that some employees were quick to defend their old boss amid the allegations.
Kelly cooperated with lawyers hired by parent company 21st Century Fox to investigate the allegations, and reportedly said Ailes had harassed her a decade ago.
According to the employees who spoke to the Times, Fox anchors Bret Baier, Brit Hume and Kelly don't speak during commercial breaks, instead paying attention to their smartphones.
But Hume has denied speculation he is angry at Kelly.
"Yes, I am upset about Roger's departure. I love the guy," Hume has said. "I don't think this episode was about political correctness. And I think Megyn Kelly did what she felt she had to do, and I am not upset with her."
Baier, anchor of "Special Report" was chummy with CNN's Jake Tapper on Thursday, though their photo shot in Facebook's little Oval Office hasn't drawn the same kind of speculation.
