Fla. Governor Mulls New Ban on Gay Adoptions

Florida Gov. Rick Scott says he still opposes letting gays and lesbians adopt children, and he won’t rule out reviving a ban on the Florida Gov. Rick Scott,gay adoption,ban,challenge,David Wilkins,Department of Families and Children,St. Petersburg Times,The Buzzpractice in his state, The Buzz blog of the St. Petersburg Times reports. Scott’s new Department of Families and Children secretary, David Wilkins, believes the governor could challenge a recent Miami court ruling that declared Florida’s gay-adoption ban unconstitutional.

Whether he will do so remains to be seen. Scott would only say that whatever position he takes on the issue “will be enforced.” Observers see the possibility of a challenge in his appointment of Wilkins, who previously worked with a Baptist children’s home that allows only “professing Christians” to adopt children in its care.
