Republicans Rip FCC Over Net Neutrality

By    |   Wednesday, 16 February 2011 03:55 PM EST

Many Republicans are upset with the Federal Communications Commission’s new regulations for the Internet — “Net neutrality.” And at a hearing Wednesday, GOP members of the Energy and Commerce Committee laid into the FCC for formulating its rules without proper market-based analysis to justify them, Politico reports.

“The FCC has done nothing to specifically quantify any harm requiring intervention, or the potential harm to consumers, innovation or the economy from the proposed rules,” committee chairman Fred Upton, R-Mich., said in his opening remarks.

Oregon GOP Rep. Greg Walden, chairman of the panel’s communications subcommittee, said, “The FCC even confesses in its order that it has done no market analysis. It just selectively applied the rules to broadband providers, shielding Web companies.”
