Eighteen members of the same family have tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19 after gathering two days after Christmas for a holiday party at a home southwest of Philadelphia, local media reported.

Those afflicted ranged from 1 to 62 years old and came from as far away as Canada, Philadelphia ABC affiliate WPVI reported, including the party host's son and husband, who has spent the past nine days in the hospital.

Darlene Reynolds, 55, said she felt something in her throat when she awoke Dec. 26, the day before guests were to arrive at her home in Milmont Park, Pennsylvania, about 10 miles southwest of Center City in Philadelphia.

"I had no fever because I kept checking it – no fever, no fever, no fever. I said, 'I'll keep a distance since I have a tiny little cough,'" WPVI quoted Reynolds as saying.

Shortly after the gathering, attendees began developing symptoms.

Reports did not say how many relatives attended the gathering.

"So, we were sick, but we didn't know we had COVID," Reynold said. "We could've had the flu, but it was scary. We got tested and we tested positive. And then my husband tested positive the next day. And then [my daughter] was getting sick and she tested positive and my son tested positive."

Reynolds' husband, Stephen, has begun to improve.

"He's headed in the right direction," according to Reynolds' daughter, Joy Purdie. "He'll need oxygen when he comes home."
