Ex-SEAL, Author of Controversial bin Laden Book, Adviser on CBS Drama

The ex-Navy SEAL who claims he killed Osama bin Laden in a May 2, 2011, raid – and whose book including the account is at the center of a lawsuit — is reportedly an adviser on a new CBS-TV drama.

Matt Bissonnette is "one of several special ops people" in the new drama, SEAL Team, a CBS entertainment spokesman told Military Times.

Bissonnette's lawyer called the gig a "testament to his character and his ability to, with time, overcome the negative comments of the past."

Bissonnette sued his former legal team in 2014, alleging he’d been advised not to provide his book, "No Easy Day," to Pentagon officials for review prior to publication. His suit, filed in New York, was thrown out in 2015, but was refiled in Indiana.

The dispute goes to trial next year, Johnston told Military Times.

According to Military Times, one of the plot lines discussed in the new show’s pilot episode, set to air Sept. 27, involves a prospective SEAL whose father wrote a controversial memoir about his special operations service.

The idea didn’t come from Bissonnette, SEAL Team executive producer and director Christopher Chulack told Military Times.

"We didn’t ask him if we could use it," Chulack told the outlet. "I think it just kind of got laid in there as an interesting story. … That wasn’t calculated, the specificity to Mark Owen [Bissonnette's pen name]."
