California Shooter's Father Directed Film About God

By    |   Sunday, 25 May 2014 09:14 PM EDT

The father of Elliot Rodger, the 22-year-old who killed six people near a California college campus on Friday before killing himself, is a film director noted for his work on "The Hunger Games," but he once directed a documentary about God.

Peter Rodger was one of five second-unit directors on 2012's "The Hunger Games," meaning he was in charge of filming not connected to the principal set, Newsday reports.

But he is also known for his own 2009 documentary "Oh My God," in which he travels the world asking people their view of the Almighty.

A trailer for the film shows celebrities and everyday people talking about who they think God is. It ranges from Christians to Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus, Jews, and atheists.

According to IMDb.com, "Oh My God" cost $1.25 million to make, but grossed just over $38,000.

Peter Rodger lists his son, Elliot, in the credits of "Oh My God" with a "special thanks," along with Peter Rodger's daughter, Georgia Rodger. Peter Rodger also is listed at IMDb as an assistant director on the currently filming short, "Amazon: Crossroad to Survival."

Peter Rodger is the son of the late George Rodger, a British war photographer who founded the Magnum photo agency.

Elliot Rodger stabbed three men to death in his Isla Vista, Calif., apartment on Friday, before embarking on a shooting spree that left three others dead and one wounded, police said. He is believed to have shot himself after exchanging gunfire with police.

Elliot Rodger had been treated for mental illness for years, and posted a YouTube video and written manifesto just before the killings that said he was unhappy with life because women had rejected his sexual advances.
