Sen. Warren: Start Impeachment Proceedings Against Trump Now

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., in a speech on the Senate floor, called for impeachment proceedings to begin against President Donald Trump.

"We took an oath not to try to protect Donald Trump, we took an oath to protect the – and serve – the constitution of the United States of America, and the way we do that is we begin impeachment proceedings now against this president," said Warren, who is running for president.

It marks the first such salvo regarding impeachment on the Senate floor, according to the National Review.

"The information that has been given to us in the Mueller report clearly constitutes adequate information to begin an impeachment proceeding in the House of Representatives," Warren is quoted by the National Review. "No matter how many times [Majority Leader] Mitch McConnell or the rest of the Republicans want to wish that away, it’s there in black and white in the report."

Warren reiterated her call in a Tuesday tweet:

"Mitch McConnell took the same oath of office as I did: To protect and defend the Constitution of the United States — not to protect and defend Donald Trump. Every elected official should read the Mueller report. Then Congress should do its job and begin impeachment proceedings."

Axios noted Warren has previously called for Trump's impeachment in a tweet and on the campaign trail.
