D’Souza’s New Documentary Extols American Exceptionalism

Conservative author Dinesh D’Souza, whose “2016: Obama’s America” was the second highest-grossing political documentary in history, is coming out with another film that extols the virtues of American exceptionalism.

D’Souza is teaming up with the same individuals who worked on the earlier documentary — Gerald Molen, producer of “Schindler's List” and “Jurassic Park,” and director John Sullivan, for the new documentary simply titled, “America,” according to the Hollywood Reporter.

“President Obama looks at America as an oppressive force, while I and millions of others around the world have a different view — that America has been a great blessing to its own people and to the world,” D’Souza said, according to the Reporter.

“We intend to provide both serious answers and have some fun as we take Obama’s dreams for America to their logical conclusions,” D’Souza said.

“America 2016,” based on D’Souza’s book, The Roots of Obama’s Rage, earned $33.5 million on a production budget of $2.5 million. The only political documentary with higher earnings was Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11, which made $119.2 million.

The three filmmakers showed a teaser of the film on Saturday at the CPAC gathering of conservative activists. D’Souza said that the film seeks to ask the question: What would the world be like if the U.S. had not existed?
