President Donald Trump's upcoming trip to California will do little to help his status as the least traveled president since Ronald Reagan, USA Today reports.

"He seems to be traveling a lot, but so much of it seems to be traveling to second homes," Brendan Doherty, a professor of political science at the U.S. Naval Academy, told the paper.

According to his tracking of the president's official travel, Trump tends to visit states where he owns a residence or battleground states close to Washington. He particularly favors New York and Florida, where he owns homes, and Pennsylvania, where he's held numerous campaign rallies. He's also visited Texas, Ohio and West Virginia three times each.

"He seems to like to go places where he's already very popular or is likely to get a raucous welcome," Doherty said.

"He doesn't seem to have the sort of creative enough staffers to push him out of the bubble, out of his comfort zone, to do anything outside the playbook," added Josh King, who worked on the Democratic presidential campaign of Michael Dukakis and in the White House during the Clinton Administration.
