President Donald Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani said Tuesday he's convinced Omarosa Manigault Newman is lying about a particular claim she made regarding Trump and WikiLeaks as she promotes her new anti-Trump book.

On Tuesday afternoon, Omarosa — who worked in the White House for a year before she was fired last December for reportedly violating government rules — said Trump knew ahead of time that WikiLeaks was going to release stolen emails from Hillary Clinton's campaign chairman John Podesta and other Democratic officials in 2016. Giuliani was close to Trump during the campaign and said Omarosa's statement is false.

"I know she's lying because I was on the campaign more than she was. I was closer to him than she was. From about June to November, I was with him 24 hours a day," Giuliani said during an interview on CNN's "Cuomo Prime Time."

"The first WikiLeaks exposure, he was completely surprised. He asked me, 'Do you think there will be more?' I told him, 'I have no idea,' but I heard some reporter on CNN, Fox, I don't know where, saying [WikiLeaks founder Julian] Assange has a practice of putting out the weakest ones first, that he builds it up, builds it up, builds it up. I said, 'I think this guy may have more than that.'"

Giuliani told host Chris Cuomo that he and Trump did not expect the subsequent flow of released emails and documents from WikiLeaks, however.

"We were surprised every time they did a disclosure. She was not as close to him as I was," he said. "If she's saying this and if it's not in the book, never said it before, I don't know if she was interviewed by special prosecutor [Robert Mueller] or not. It would be interesting if she ever said it to him."

Omarosa has made several wild claims about Trump in recent days, including that he is racist and that he has mentally declined. She has also released the audio of conversations she had with Trump and others in the White House.
