Hours before coronavirus whistleblower Rick Bright is expected to testify before Congress, Donald Trump called him a disgruntled employee on Twitter.

“I don’t know the so-called Whistleblower Rick Bright, never met him or even heard of him, but to me he is a disgruntled employee, not liked or respected by people I spoke to and who, with his attitude, should no longer be working for our government!” Trump tweeted Thursday morning.

In a written testimony obtained by CNN, the former director of the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Agency, will tell the House Committee on Energy and Commerce's health subcommittee that the Trump administration wasn’t prepared for the coronavirus outbreak and that the country faces "unprecedented illness and fatalities" without additional preparations.

"Without clear planning and implementation of the steps that I and other experts have outlined, 2020 will be darkest winter in modern history,” he wrote in his testimony.

In addition to sharing ways the government can ramp up efforts to curb the spread of the virus, Bright also is supposed to talk about a whistleblower complaint he filed. His complaint alleges he was removed from his role as retaliation for opposing a drug that President Donald Trump supports as a coronavirus treatment.

Bright was sent to work as a senior adviser at the National Institutes of Health. The Office of Special Counsel, which is reviewing his complaint, has determined there is reason to believe his removal was retaliatory and is recommending he be reinstated to his post at BARDA during the investigation.
