Retiring Dr. Ben Carson Looks Back on Years of Surgery

Thursday, 20 June 2013 06:37 PM EDT

Dr. Benjamin S. Carson is retiring this summer as director of pediatric neurosurgery at the John Hopkins University in Baltimore.

Throughout his career at Hopkins, Carson, 61, has performed as many as 17,000 brain surgeries on children in the United States and all over the world. His last surgery was performed on Thursday.

Carson recently has dipped his hand into the political arena, beginning in February when he attacked several of President Barack Obama’s policies at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington. He continues to speak out against Obamacare.

In this exclusive interview with talk-radio host Armstrong Williams, Carson discusses preparing for his last surgery and his moving on to other projects.
