Dershowitz to Newsmax: I Welcome Defamation Suit

By    |   Friday, 08 November 2019 08:52 PM

Alan Dershowitz, a professor emeritus of law at Harvard University, told Newsmax TV Friday night, after high-powered attorney David Boies filed a defamation lawsuit against him, that he's happy to have been sued, as that "invites me to litigate his whole career."

"He's opened up a Pandora's Box that probably threatens the future of his law firm, and certainly threatens his own future," Dershowitz told "Newsmax Now" host John Bachman "He's had many, many ethics charges brought against him ... this time he will have to respond in public for the first time."

Boies, he threatened, will "rue the day that he sued me, in an open-ended way that allows me to put his whole career on trial."

Boies represents Virginia Giuffre, who claimed she was forced to have sex with Dershowitz and friends and acquaintances of sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Dershowitz has sued Giuffre, after she sued him for calling her a liar about her claims, with Boles' lawsuit against Dershowitz coming soon after on Friday.

According to the New York Post, the suit accuses Dershowitz of leveling extortion charges against Boies to "distract attention from his own misconduct."

"Thankfully," said Dershowitz in a statement, "truth is a defense against defamation, and we will prove that everything I said about him is true, and what he has said about me is false."

One of Dershowitz's attorneys, Arthur Aidala of Aidala, Bertuna & Kamins P.C., also stated: "Alan Dershowitz is not only my client, he is a mentor, role model, and personal friend."

Aidala characterized the lawsuit filed by Boies as "a petty move reeking of personal animus. Alan is ready to fight and aggressively defend against this lawsuit."
