Police in the District of Columbia fatally shot a man on Wednesday after responding to a call of guns in a vehicle, several media outlets reported.
Police Chief Peter Newsham told an impromptu briefing of reporters that the suspects fled on foot when officers approached a vehicle at about 4 p.m., TheHill.com reported. The suspect was shot during the pursuit, Cox Media Group reported.
No identity on the suspect was given, but The Washington Post said he was a “young Black man” and protesters gathered outside a local police precinct demanding “Justice for Dion.”
Police recovered two firearms at the scene, but Newsham said it had not yet been determined if the man shot – who information indicated was an adult – was armed.
The chief also said he would not be “speculating” on the motive of the officer who shot the suspect, saying it was “improper” to do so.
