The sensational rise and fall of movie mogul Harvey Weinstein may be headed to Broadway.

Pulitzer-winning playwright David Mamet tells the Chicago Tribune he's written a stage play about the disgraced producer, who is accused of multiple counts of rape and sexual misconduct.

"I was talking with my Broadway producer and he said, 'Why don't you write a play about Harvey Weinstein?' And so I did," Mamet told the newspaper.

"Bitter Wheat," will be Mamet's second play about allegations of sexual harassment following his 1992 show, "Oleanna," which starred William H. Macy and Rebecca Pidgeon, and was about a university professor and his female student accuser.

"I think about this a lot now. I have a bunch of daughters, a young son," Mamet told The Tribune's Rick Kogan. "Every society has to confront the ungovernable genie of sexuality and tries various ways to deal with it and none of them work very well."

A "Chicago stage legend who is now a movie star" has already expressed "great interest" in the lead role of Bitter Wheat," according to Kogan.

Weinstein, 65, has not been formally charged with a crime, but Los Angeles police have taken dozens of reports from women who have accused him of sexual misconduct. Authorities in New York and London are also investigating him.

The New York City-born mogul who has denied all allegations, was forced out of The Weinstein Company, which he co-founded and catapulted to Oscar glory, after a New York Times investigative piece published last October alleging he sexually harassed women and paid off accusers for decades.

Among the A-listers to point fingers at Weinstein are Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, Uma Thurman and Rose McGowan.

When it's produced, "Bitter Wheat" will join a long roster of plays from Mamet, whose other works include "Speed-the-Plow," "Glengarry Glen Ross," "Sexual Perversity in Chicago" and "American Buffalo."
