Connecticut Gov. Dan Malloy says American lawmakers who continue to ignore the ongoing wave of gun violence are bound to be affected by it themselves.

"What I am going to say to them, and I have said literally since Sandy Hook, is this is coming to your neighborhood. This could affect your grandchild or your child," Malloy said to CNN's Chris Cuomo on Wednesday, one week after a gunman shot dead 17 at a Florida high school.

"You are going to see people in your state killed in restaurants and movie theaters and schools and in churches. Why can I say that? Because that is all we have seen since Sandy Hook. This is playing itself out time and time again."

In 2012, the Nutmeg State suffered its most devastating instance of gun violence when a heavily armed maniac shot dead 20 children and six staffers at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown.

That attack spurred an outpouring of public support for new firearms restrictions, although no major legislation was enacted.

Renewed demands for strengthened laws are now being called for following last Wednesday's bloodbath at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.

"A place like Florida has seen almost two mass murders in a row in a relatively short period of time. There are people out there now, perhaps in your community where you live or where your family lives back in your home state. There are people there planning the next mass attack."
