Former Major League Baseball star pitcher Curt Schilling expressed his fears over losing his job as an ESPN baseball analyst while donating $250 to Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson's campaign last September, Federal Election Commission filings show.

The Sept. 1 donation came a week after Schilling was suspended by the sports cable giant over a Twitter post that compared Muslims to Nazis.

CNN reports that in the FEC filing Schilling wrote under employer "ESPN (Not Sure How Much Longer)." Then, under occupation, he wrote "Analyst (For Now Anyway)."

Schilling's Aug. 25 tweet read: "It's said only 5-10% of Muslims are extremists. In 1940, only 7% of Germans were Nazis. How'd that go?"

ESPN suspended him for the post, saying "Curt's tweet was completely unacceptable, and in no way represents our company's perspective."

Schilling later backtracked from the tweet, calling it "a dumb decision."

It was not the first time the ex-pitcher found himself in hot water for his social media posts. He has received criticism for posting pro-Confederate flag photos and other controversial statements onto Facebook and Twitter.

Schilling has also claimed that being a Republican cost him a spot in the Hall of Fame.

In January, ESPN announced that Schilling was being taken off of the network's high-profile "Sunday Night Baseball" package and moved to the less-prestigious Monday night telecasts.

Former U.S. Olympic softball player Jessica Mendoza is replacing Schilling on the Sunday telecasts in a move that has been hailed as a "barrier breaker" for female sports announcers.
