CNN's New 'Crossfire' Producer Leveled Race Remarks at Romney, GOP

By    |   Monday, 29 July 2013 01:17 PM EDT

CNN announced Monday that David Chalian, who criticized the GOP for its position on blacks during the 2012 Republican National Convention, will be named the supervising producer for CNN's "Crossfire."

The former Yahoo News Washington bureau chief courted controversy after he blasted GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney and the Republican Party during coverage of the convention.

"They're not concerned at all," Chalian said on a break during the ABC News/Yahoo News webcast convention coverage. "They're happy to party while black people drown," a reference to Tropical Storm Isaac.

The remarks caused Chalian to be fired, and he immediately apologized.

A month later, he worked as vice president of video programming at Politico, but left shortly after to "pursue other opportunities," according to the Daily Caller.

Before his stint at Yahoo, Chalian previously served as political director for ABC News and political editor for PBS's "NewsHour."
