46 States Not Likely to Reopen Schools for Remainder of Year

Governors in 46 states around the country, along with Washington, D.C., have decided to keep schools closed through the rest of the academic year to curb the spread of coronavirus, according to CNN.

Some states have disclosed the strategies for lifting social distancing rules, while the federal government has given states guidance for reopening in phases. 

However, schools are not likely to reopen for most states and U.S. territories, including American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and U.S. Virgin Islands.

These are the states that have recommended or mandatory school closures for the rest of the year: 

Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, NewYork, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia.
