A CNN sister station is making drastic cuts to its broadcast lineup as it tries to cope with the changing media landscape.

According to Mediaite, CNN HLN is canceling several of its shows and will air taped programs after 3 p.m. during the week.

Mediaite cited an email sent to employees by Ken Jautz, the executive vice president of CNN-US, as saying with cable news' shift to mostly political news, HLN's "live news shows have not benefitted from this trend given our story mix. However, HLN's longform programs have been performing very well."

Among the changes that will be implemented Oct. 29:

  • "Across America with Carol Costello," "Crime & Justice with Ashleigh Banfield," and "Michaela," which is hosted by Michaela Pereira, are among the shows that will be canceled. Each of the hosts are leaving the station, Mediaite reported.
  • The network's morning show, "Morning Express with Robin Meade," will be extended from 6-11 a.m. to 6-noon.
  • "On the Story" will move from the 1-3 p.m. timeslot to noon-3 p.m.
  • HLN will air taped programming after 3 p.m. on weekdays.

As of early Tuesday evening, CNN had yet to comment publicly about the changes.

HLN was launched as CNN2 in 1983. It was rebranded Headline News one year later, and in 2008 the name changed again to simply HLN.
