CNN's chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta declares "neutrality for the sake of neutrality" is not possible while President Donald Trump is in the White House.

In his new book, "The Enemy of the People: A Dangerous Time to Tell the Truth in America" — excerpted in The Guardian ahead of its June 11 release — Acosta admits to sometimes "grandstanding" and "showboating," according to The Guardian.

He also says he "opts for the bait" when questioning Trump, "which bothers some people."

But of concerns he might be biased against the president, Acosta writes: "Neutrality for the sake of neutrality doesn't really serve us in the age of Trump," The Guardian reported.

As the 2020 election approaches, the war with the press continues, Acosta writes, according to The Guardian.

In the wake of the special counsel Robert Mueller's report on Russia's influence in the 2016 election, "Trump once again called the press 'the enemy of the people,'" Acosta writes.

"'You guys are dead now,'" he says an unnamed Trump surrogate told him, referring to the mainstream media, The Guardian reported.
