MSNBC's Chuck Todd: NRA ‘Probably Going to Win’ on Gun Control

By    |   Tuesday, 02 Apr 2013 09:54 PM

The National Rifle Association is ‘probably going to win’ the fight in Washington over gun control, NBC’s chief White House correspondent Chuck Todd said Tuesday on MSNBC.

Todd said the NRA has packed a powerful campaign against restrictions to gun ownership.

But the question, Todd said, is whether the NRA has alienated Democrats in the process.

“Are they no longer the most powerful bi-partisan lobbying group in this town? And in the future, when there is Democratic control of the House and the Senate at the same time … Will they regret they've done this short-term strategy and burned this bridge with Democrats in the long term?”

Todd notes that while the NRA is winning on the federal level, “it is a different story in the states.” Connecticut, where the Newtown shooting occurred in December, will vote Wednesday on some of the toughest gun legislation in the country.

And more gun-friendly Colorado has just passed tougher gun laws, though notably less strict that those in Connecticut.
