Lawyers for the woman who accused Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault said she and her family had to move out of their home because of death threats after her allegations became public.
Christine Blasey Ford claims Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her 36 years ago when the pair was in high school. Her story has lacked specific details, and many on the right believe the allegations are a political hit job orchestrated by Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif.
Ford's lawyers sent a letter to Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Chuck Grassley on Tuesday that detailed what she has gone through in recent days.
"In the 36 hours since her name became public, Dr. Ford has received a stunning amount of support from her community and from fellow citizens across our country," the letter reads. "At the same time, however, her worst fears have materialized. She has been the target of vicious harassment and even death threats.
"As a result of these kind of threats, her family was forced to relocate out of their home. Her email has been hacked, and she has been impersonated online."
The letter also confirmed Ford will not testify in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee until the FBI investigates the allegations. Kavanaugh and Ford have both been invited to answer questions in front of the panel next Monday, but only Kavanaugh has committed to attending.
