A federal appeals court in San Francisco heard arguments Monday on whether Donald Trump and his administration can be sued by a group of children over the president’s environmental policy, The Mercury News reports.

The ages of the plaintiffs in the case range from 10 to 21. The suit, Juliana v. United States, was originally filed two years ago against the Obama administration, and accuses the government of violating constitutional rights by failing to address climate change and continuing to subsidize fossil fuels.

The Justice Department in July tried to block the lawsuit, and the Trump administration motioned to dismiss it on Monday by arguing that a trial process would be too burdensome. But several judges voiced skepticism about the government’s request.

“You come in here with an order to depose the president, that would be one thing,” Judge Marsha Berzon told Eric Grant, the Trump administration’s lawyer. “You don’t have any order.”

A ruling is expected in the next few weeks or months, reports the Mercury News.

“If we don’t stop climate change, I might not have a home when I’m older,” said Levi Draheim, a 10-year-old who lives in Florida and watched his street flood during Hurricane Irma. “That’s why our case has to go to trial.”
