Adam Smith, the former chief financial officer of a medical device company, says he now lives on food stamps and can't get a job two years after posting a
viral video in which he berated a Chick-fil-A employee over CEO Dan Cathy's stance against same-sex marriage.
Smith was earning $200,000 a year and had $1 million in stock options when he was fired. He lost his salary and the stock options.
Story continues below video.
Company officials told him they had been receiving bomb threats over his video in which Smith berates drive-thru clerk Rachel Elizabeth, telling her, "I don't know how you live with yourself and work here."
He found another job, but was fired two weeks later for not disclosing the video. So he began playing the video at job interviews, but has been unable to obtain employment. His wife now is the breadwinner for the family. The couple has four children.
Smith was interviewed by ABC's "20/20," and said he didn't regret the stand he took, but said he shouldn't have been as rude to Elizabeth.
Elizabeth has said she forgives Smith.
