CBO: Dumping Obamacare Grants Would Save $14B

The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office has figured out a way to save money on healthcare. If Congress repeals the new healthcare law’s issuance of grants to states for setting up health insurance exchanges, the government would save about $14 billion during the next 10 years, the CBO estimates, according to The Hill.

The CBO’s projection came as part of an analysis it issued Wednesday concerning a bill the House Energy and Commerce committee passed earlier in the month to eliminate the grants.

The CBO said dumping the grants would mean that fewer people would join the exchanges.

Repeal of the grants would immediately save $1.9 billion, the CBO says. Additional savings would come from the fact that potential customers would be reluctant to join the exchanges amid delays and potential legal challenges to them after Congress acts.
