The 22-year granddaughter of Bobby Kennedy — charged with disorderly conduct at a noisy party last summer — is being given a chance to work off the offense and avoid up to 100 days behind bars.

Caroline Rose Kennedy — whose grandfather was a U.S. attorney general and U.S. senator from New York before being assassinated in 1968 during a presidential run — is being placed in a "diversion program" for youthful offenders with minor charges, The Boston Herald reports.

She had been set to be arraigned on Wednesday on a disorderly conduct charge stemming from complaints about a rowdy clambake and fireworks display near the Kennedy family compound in Hyannis last August. However, prosecutors asked for and received a postponement until March 22, 2018 so that Kennedy may pay her debt to society without a possible jail sentence.

According to The Cape Cod Times, Caroline and her father Max Kennedy, 52, were taken into custody at the party after police said they incited the crowd of partygoers into an "angry mob," according to The Cape Cod Times.

The Herald said Caroline allegedly refused a Breathalyzer test and swore at police during booking. Prosecutors later dismissed the charge against Max Kennedy and he paid a $150 fine for a noise violation.

According to Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O'Keefe, those in the diversion program "perform community service, complete an online evidence based educational course, remain drug and alcohol free, submit to random urine testing, counseling (if appropriate), and payment of restitution."
