North Carolina is expected to pass legislation allowing motorists to drive at 75 mph on some of the Tar Heel State's major highways.
A bill to bump up the speed — proposed by Republican state Sen. Neal Hunt and passed by the Senate 45-1 in April — is now expected to be approved by the House,
reports The Charlotte Observer.
If passed, speeds on some 70 mph roads would be pushed up 5 mph to 75 mph.
North Carolina will become the 17th state to approve the 75 mph limit on some of its highways, although some Texas roads have 85 mph limits.
Some safety experts say they are wary of the higher speed, fearing it will lead to more traffic accidents, injuries and fatalities.
