INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A woman who ran unsuccessfully for U.S. Congress last year has been charged with making threats against Indiana judges on her Facebook account.
Fifty-one-year-old Cheryl Allen of Martinsville, Ind., was being held on $100,000 bond Saturday. She was arrested Thursday on eight felony counts of intimidation.
Prosecutor Steve Sonnega says he was among the targets and turned over the investigation to state police and a special prosecutor. He says he decided to err on the side of caution after last week's shootings in Arizona that wounded U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and killed six others.
Allen maintained her innocence at a court hearing Friday.
Police say Allen posted threats against four local judges and other officials Monday.
