State-of-the-art backpacks that can deflect an assassin’s bullets are experiencing a huge boost in sales in the wake of the deadly Florida school massacre that left 17 dead two days ago.

BulletBlocker -- a Massachusetts-based company, which sells packs lined with a high-strength material called Kevlar for $199 and up – has seen a 30 percent spike in demand since the Valentine’s Day slaughter at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, TMZ.com reports.

The company’s owner, Joe Curran told the website that the majority of those packs, which weigh four and a half pounds apiece, are being shipped to Florida.

One model, the BulletBlocker NIJ IIIA Bulletproof Covert Backpack, is said to be capable of stopping ammunition from 357 Magnum, 44 Magnum, 9mm, .45 caliber firearms.

Another fortified backpack made by TRS and sold on Amazon, features a side pouch for “firearm quick-draw” and “quick release straps allow you to drop the bag quickly in case of trouble.”

Amazon describes it as an “everyday backpack” that has the “highest blunt trauma protection rating in soft body armor. It is covert, so no one needs to know you have body armor on your back (or wherever you want to carry it).”

And a pack made by Leatherback Gear promote is promoted as the “only bulletproof backpack that converts into a protective vest in less than five seconds.”

Armored backpacks for students began getting nationwide attention in 2012 after the Newtown elementary school horror in Connecticut in which a gunman fatally shot 20 children between six and seven years old, as well as six adult staff members.
