Rep. Byrne Introducing Bill to Codify Barr Probe of Investigators

(Fox News' "Fox & Friends")

By    |   Tuesday, 28 May 2019 11:11 AM

Rep. Bradley Byrne, R-Ala., who plans to introduce a bill codifying Attorney General William Barr's investigation of the origins of the probe into President Donald Trump's campaign, said Tuesday a full probe is warranted to see how "far up the chain" the "partisan witch hunt" against Trump went.

"We spent over two years, $35 million on the lawyers, investigators, paralegals, and for what?" Rep. Byrne told Fox News' "Fox & Friends." "We got a big fat goose egg here. Mr. [Robert] Mueller himself determined there was no collusion, no conspiracy. The attorney general concluded there is no obstruction. So, we spent all this time and all this money for what? It was a partisan witch-hunt from the beginning."

It must be determined if then-President Barack Obama knew about the investigation and when he knew about it, Byrne said, and a full investigation is needed to "make sure that doesn't happen in the future."

Byrne admitted he does not know if Democrats can be stopped from their push to impeach the president, but he does not think there is a case.

"I read the Mueller report cover to cover," Byrne said. "I read some parts three or four times . . . there is just no case."

But Democrats are "so locked into" trying to find something about Trump they were willing to get into a witch hunt, Byrne said, and "there is no witch to this witch hunt."
