California Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer, chairwoman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, is ready to take on Republicans over the issue of climate change. She says she expects hearings on the issue, The Hill reports.

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., who is expected to head the panel's oversight subcommittee, "is working on getting us going with some hearings," she says. "We are going to absolutely look at the science of carbon pollution and its impact on our people, on our planet. We are absolutely going to keep up with the science."

Boxer's comments came after Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla., the leading climate-change skeptic in Congress, reiterated that global warming science remains unsettled. He is co-sponsoring bills that would strip the Environmental Protection Agency's power to regulate greenhouse gas emissions.
