Bo Duke Run Down by the Law; John Schneider Goes to Jail

Bo Duke was run down by the law. Former television star John Schneider was jailed after he allegedly failed to pay more than $150,000 in back spousal support to his estranged wife and released after about five hours, TMZ reported Tuesday.

Schneider, who became a household name running from the law in the 1980s television show "Dukes of Hazzard," was arrested Tuesday morning and booked into the Los Angeles County Jail, according to People magazine.

The publication said that because the jail was overcrowded, Schneider was released at 3:36 p.m., after about five hours, even through he was ordered to stay three days.

TMZ reported that Schneider still must complete 240 hours of community service, and honor a list of financial obligations, or he could face another five-day sentence.

People said Schneider was supposed to have paid more than $150,000 in delinquent alimony to his estranged wife, Elvira "Elly" Schneider, by mid-March.

Schneider claimed in a spousal support hearing in February that he was unable to pay because his income had fallen, Fox News reported. The actor claimed that he has hit hard financial times and spent most of his money repairing his movie studio in Louisiana after it was destroyed in a March 2016 flood.

"I'm disheartened with the system but my head's up, and I'm going to go do what I have to do and make it through the next couple of days," the actor told Fox News.

"It's common sense versus entitlement. I've worked seven days a week, 80 hours a week, at least since 1978. I have, as every working person has, a mountain of debt that was attached to my dream. And there's a group now that somehow feels they're entitled to life or even luxury without work and the judicial system apparently agrees with that."

Schneider, who played Bo Duke on the hit series from 1979 to 1985 as well as a handful of revivals in the early 2000s, said he would give his ex the money just to end the drama, Fox News wrote.

"If I had it [money], I would've given it to her just to let this go away but I don't have it," Schneider told Fox News. "Hopefully this is evidence of that."
