Former "Access Hollywood" host Billy Bush slammed President Donald Trump on Monday for reportedly saying that the lewd tape of him revealed during the presidential campaign was a hoax.

In a column for The New York Times, Bush said Trump is "indulging in some revisionist history" by claiming that the voice on the 2005 tape was not his and that the president's claim "has hit a raw nerve in me."

"Of course he said it," Bush wrote, adding that there were seven other men on the bus at the time who also heard it.

At the time, Bush said, "every single one of us assumed we were listening to a crass standup act," but now, after reading the detailed accusations of some 20 women against Trump, he realizes that the women are telling the truth.

Bush also accused Trump of lying as a strategy, recalling that after he called him out for inflating his ratings on "The Apprentice" television show, Trump said, "People will just believe you. You just tell them and they believe you."

Bush said that he was "not guilty of knowingly enabling our future president," but admitted that he and others in television "were guilty of sacrificing a bit of ourselves in the name of success."

He acknowledged that he acted out of self-interest, because "the key to succeeding in my line of work was establishing a strong rapport with celebrities. I did that, and was rewarded for it. My segments with Donald Trump when I was just a correspondent were part of the reason I got promoted."

But Bush added that with Trump's "outsized viewership [on "The Apprentice"] back in 2005, everybody from Billy Bush on up to the [NBC] top brass on the 52nd floor had to stroke the ego of the big cash cow along the way to higher earnings."

Bush called those women who have come forward with their stories about what Trump did to them "culture warriors at the forefront of necessary change" and said they "have my respect and admiration" for the bravery to overcome the fear "of being summarily dismissed and called a liar."

He added that "I have faith that when the hard work of exposing these injustices is over, the current media drama of who did what to whom will give way to a constructive dialogue between mature men and women in the workplace and beyond."
