O'Reilly Backs Trump Immigration Ban, But Advises to Use Caution

Fox News host Bill O'Reilly applauded President Donald Trump's immigration order Monday night, but he offered some constructive advice: be flexible.

During his opening "Talking Points Memo" on the "O'Reilly Factor," O'Reilly said the Trump administration needs to have the ability to grant exceptions when necessary.

"President Trump is being responsible setting up new refugee standards as long as they are fully explained and expedited in a timely manner," O'Reilly said.

"We don't want to tarnish the message the Statue of Liberty sends. Also, the administration must be willing to grant exceptions, and above all, it should help refugees survive in the terror zones abroad. Protecting Americans is obviously priority No. 1, but the nobility of our nation demands we help suffering, helpless people if we can."

Trump signed an executive order last Friday that put a temporary halt on people coming to the United States from seven countries with a terror presence — Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia, and Yemen. The order also halted the refugee program from those nations for 120 days and the Syrian refugee program indefinitely.

"It is certainly responsible and logical for a new president to institute updated protections for this country by ordering specific, temporary immigration actions," O'Reilly said.

"However, it's also responsible for a federal judge to order that foreigners with the proper credentials already issued not be punished. There should be room for case-by-case decision making as Republican Sens. [John] McCain and [Lindsey] Graham have requested."

O'Reilly added that NATO, led by the U.S., "should assist Turkey, Jordan, Iraq, and other countries" in setting up safe zones for refugees in war-torn regions.

Trump fired two high-ranking members of his administration Monday night — acting Attorney General Sally Yates and acting head of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Daniel Ragsdale — as he seeks enforcement of his immigration orders at all levels.
