A student was shot at an Arkansas junior high school Monday on the first day of full, in-person learning.
A male suspect has been taken into custody and the juvenile victim is alive, but in serious condition, according to a local report.
The Pine Bluff, Arkansas, school district — about 45 miles outside the state capital of Little Rock — wrote on Facebook:
"This was an isolated incident and all students are safe at this time. The parent of the student hurt has been notified so if you have not been notified by the school your student is safe and secure."
The district campuses went into a brief lockdown, but parents are now permitted to pick up their children, the school wrote in another post.
Police told Fox-16 KARK the shooting happened inside the school.
