President Donald Trump's approval rating is stable at 46%, according to the latest Caps/Harris poll released Thursday.

The survey was published the same day as a whistleblower complaint detailing Trump's phone call with Ukraine's president in which Trump pressures the leader to investigate political rival Joe Biden and conducted Sept. 22-24, days before House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced impeachment proceedings against Trump and accused the president of a "cover-up" regarding the phone call.

"Up until the Ukraine story fully broke, the president had been enjoying rising approval ratings over the last two months as fears of a recession had been receding," Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll Director Mark Penn said.

The poll also found:

  • 55% believe the U.S. is on the right track, compared with 37% who do not.
  • 44% of men believe the U.S. is on the right track, compared with 31% of women.
  • 42% said they expect a recession at some point in the near future, compared with 35% who said they expect the economy to remain stable.
  • 55% approve of the job Trump has done with job growth and 54% say they approve of his handling of the economy overall

The Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll surveyed 2,009 registered voters from Sept. 22-24. The poll is a collaboration of the Center for American Political Studies at Harvard University and The Harris Poll.
