The University of Kansas is raising eyebrows by offering a course called "Angry White Male Studies" for the upcoming fall semester.
KCTV cited the course description, which says it will examine "the rise of the 'angry white male' in America and Britain since the 1950s."
The description continues:
"Employing interdisciplinary perspectives this course examines how both dominant and subordinate masculinities are represented and experienced in cultures undergoing periods of rapid change connected to modernity as well as to rights-based movements of women, people of color, homosexuals and trans individuals."
Students at the Lawrence, Kansas campus told KCTV the new course has been a hot topic.
"Everyone's just reposting it [on social media] and asking if it's a joke or not, it's just been all over the Snapchat stories, so it's been like big news today," student Emily Hiegert told the news station.
Added student Kody Ross: "We have a lot of different classes that kind of like related to this that you wouldn't think would be on college campuses."
Rep. Ron Estes, R-Kan., said the course will be more divisive than unifying.
Estes tweeted:
"Instead of a course to unite people and empower women, KU has decided to offer a class that divides the student population and could pose a Title IX violation by creating a hostile campus environment based on gender. #ksleg"
