All registered New York voters will receive a postage-paid absentee ballot for the state’s upcoming primary election, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Friday.

Cuomo said he would sign an executive order that would send voters an absentee ballot prior to the June 23 election, The Hill reports.

His announcement follows a separate executive order that he made giving all New York voters the ability to request an absentee ballot for the state’s primary election if they have concerns about contracting COVID-19 by voting in person.

Typically, voters have to provide a reason or extenuating circumstance to explain why they are unable to vote at their designated polling station.

Cuomo said voters will still have the option to vote at the polls.

"You have both options," Cuomo said. "You can go to the polls or you can vote absentee. I don't know what else anyone could expect you to do.”
