Veterans Advocate: Left's Tweets 'Cowardly' Over 'Sniper' Movie

A top advocate for U.S. veterans is accusing left-wing critics of the blockbuster movie, "American Sniper," of sending "cowardly tweets" in a futile attempt to damage the film that is setting box-office records.

Pete Hegseth, a combat soldier who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, singled out director Michael Moore, actor Seth Rogen and former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean, as he denounced the virulent social media campaign against the Clint Eastwood film about the life of the late Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, America’s most deadly sharpshooter.

"As much as the left would like you to believe it, Chris Kyle was not a bloodthirsty warmonger," Hegseth wrote in an opinion piece on the Fox News website.

"He was a noble warrior who fought to defend his fellow troops, watched over the lives of his brothers, and advanced the cause of [eventual] peace. This is where the true success of 'American Sniper' comes to light."

Hegseth, CEO of Concerned Veterans for America, noted that the Americans are crowding movie theaters to make "American Sniper" one of the biggest war films ever made.

"There’s no denying it. Clint Eastwood’s 'American Sniper' has struck a chord with the American people and did so by tapping in to the deepest civic values we have as Americans duty, honor, fidelity, courage, love for country…and a love for others," wrote Hegseth, who still serves as a captain in the Army National Guard.

"However, no war movie can live on the big screen without a spew of liberal backlash, and this film is no different. …

"Thankfully, some things speak louder than cowardly tweets — like the more than $200 million in ticket sales the movie has raked in just one week. In fact, the new war film featuring Bradley Cooper as well-known Navy SEAL sniper, Chris Kyle, is on pace to become the top-grossing war film of all time."

Moore, on Jan. 19, compared snipers to cowards in a infamous tweet that got social media riled.

Rogen — a co-star of "The Interview," the movie that outraged North Korea — later compared "American Sniper" to Nazi propaganda.

Dean, former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, claimed the movie is attracting angry people.

"There’s a lot of anger in this country. And the people who go see this movie are people who are very angry," Dean said last week. "This guy basically says, ‘I’m going to fight on your side.’ They bite for it."
