Alec Baldwin just can't wait for his days of playing Donald Trump to be over.

The actor has earned widespread praise for lampooning the Republican nominee on "Saturday Night Live," while drawing criticism from Trump. But he admitted, he never wanted the role to begin with, according to Politico.

At first Baldwin rejected an offer from SNL producer Lorne Michaels to play Trump, but later became convinced to accept it.

"You get lucky," Baldwin told WNYC's Brian Lehrer, according to Politico. "And I also think people were ready to take in that version of him that is so aggressive. The writing, I find, [is] a key to playing him, and none of it would work if the writing's not there. Of course, he's the head writer of his own comedy routine."

Baldwin said he doesn't expect Trump to win and is looking forward to getting his Saturday nights back to spend time with his children.
