No Charges in 'Bomb in Body' Case

Wednesday, 23 May 2012 03:46 PM EDT

A woman aboard a US Airways flight who said she had a device surgically implanted in her won’t be charged by the U.S. Justice Department, according to a federal law enforcement official.

The woman, a French citizen, will be handed over to immigration authorities and returned to her home country, said the official, who wasn’t authorized to speak publicly.

The flight from Paris to Charlotte, N.C, was diverted on Tuesday after the woman she she had the device, according to Rep. Peter King, a New York Republican who is chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee. Nothing was found. The Boeing Co. 767 jet landed safely in Bangor, Maine.
